The Chinese New Year is based on the lunar year cycle and the celebration is depended on when the first new moon of the lunar year comes. The celebration usually falls on the second or sometimes on the third new moon after the winter solstice.
2009 according to Chinese astrology is the Year of the Earth Ox.
