Kerygma Conference 2009, Day 1

Kerygma Conference 2009 was a two day event at the Araneta Coliseum. It was the biggest Catholic Learning Event in the country. The conference at the Araneta Coliseum was simulcast at the Cebu Convention Center. Around 10,000 participants were at the Araneta while those in Cebu were 2,000.

The theme for this year's conference was "Dream Big, Win Big!"

I was at the venue at 7:40 am because I wanted to secure a good seat for myself since my ticket was for free seating arrangement. I was late in buying the tickets, the patron and the lower box section were already sold out two weeks before the affair. I was at the upper box b section of the coliseum at the aisle. I immediately open my seminar kit inside a recycable blue bag handed near the gates to check its content. Inside the kit were: the souvenir program which also contained the notes for the conference, ball pen, a novena booklet, kerygma magazine and a pack of Hershey's n'more chocolate crispies. I was surprise to see what's inside because I only paid P200.00 for the two day event, yet inside the kit were items that would have cost more than P100.00.

Keryma magazine is my favorite Catholic magazine and who wouldn't love Hershey's chocolates? right.

Since I was attending the conference alone, my prayer that morning was that I would be seated with someone who's nice. And it was an answered prayer because I met and was seated to a friendly girl who happens to have the same name as mine. We immediately chatted and bonded while waiting for the seminar to start. What a cool way to start my day!

First in the program was the worship session. Everyone was on their feet dancing and singing their hearts out for the Lord and it was followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Rev. Fr. Mario Sobrejuanite.

The inspirational talks were given by Bro. Bo Sanchez, Arun Gogna, Alvin Barcelona and Obet Cabrillas; their talks were very entertaining, powerful and encouraging. They inspire me to dream, believe in the power of my dreams and to make my dreams become a reality. I'll be sharing the thing I've learned from the event in my other post.

There were special performance between the talks but I was touched by the performance of Fatima Soriano. She has a very beautiful voice and she really sings with a lot of passion. She was born blind, was on peritoneal dialysis for ten months when she was ten years old because she had an end stage renal disease, and had a kidney transplant after. Yet despite all her struggles at a young age, she radiates an aura of peace.

When she was asked what she thinks was her core gift in my life, I was thinking she's going to answer singing. But she said her core gift in life was to give hope and encouragement to those who despair. Her answer touched my heart. Who am I to complain about the trials I'm going through when its nothing compared to what she's been through at a young age? She has a big heart because she was not focused on her suffering. She used her difficulties to encourage other.

The conference ended before seven in the evening. It was a long day but I hardly noticed the time passing by. I went home on the first day very inspired!

Kerygma Conference 2009

I'm attending the Kerygma Conference in Araneta Coliseum this Saturday and Sunday.
Kerygma Conference is the biggest Catholic Learning Event in the country and it will be headed by Bo Sanchez. Their will be a mass, healing session, and inspirational talks on how to practically live the gospel.
This year's theme for the conference is "Dream Big, Win Big."
I finally decided to attend about two weeks ago, so when I bought my tickets for the two day event I was suprised to find out that the tickets available were for general admission only. But since I want to participate even if I'll be attending alone I bought tickets for myself. My only regret is not buying much earlier so I can secure better seats.
I'm excited about the conference! It's like my soul is telling me to take a break and have a date with my Lord for two days. It's just like having a retreat, the last retreat I have was when I was still in college.
I'm really happy and looking forward to tomorrow's event. I hope I'll be seated with nice people because I don't have know anyone in the conference.

Working Together

The past few weeks at work has been super tiring for me. All the unfinished task is putting a lot of stress and pressure on me. I have not been sleeping well last week so last Friday, exhaustion finally caught up on me, I was in bed before 8:00 pm.

I woke up the next day, recharged from the long rest I got from the previous night. My boyfriend went to our house early Saturday morning to eat breakfast with me,and to bring me to the office for my over time work. He knew that with all the work piling on my office table , I need extra hands to help me finish my tasks so he volunteered his services for me.

Boyfriend and I used to work in the same company. The company that I'm still working for right now. We were officemates for two years before he resigned from the company to work in Japan. So he can really help me with my work because he used to perfom some of these tasks before.

I missed the times when we still work together, we were such a great team. Going to the office back then was something I really look forward too everyday. He pick me up from our house and brought me home every single day.

So when he resigned from work and work overseas it was extremely difficult for me because I need to adjust to a new routine. What made it even harder was the fact that he was in another country.

Back then,we were very discreet about our relationship, no one knew in the office that we were dating back then because we don't want to be the subject of rumors in the office. They only found out about it when he returned from Japan.
After four hours of working together, he brought me home and he proceeded to his surplus shop in Marikina City.
I'm grateful that even if bf is busy with his work, he still finds the time to help me with my work. I'm really contemplating on resigning from my current work because my work load is getting heavier and I think I 'm not properly compensated for it.

Last November 8

Last November 8, 2009, my dad, my brother, cousins, grandfather, aunt, uncles and I went to Loyola Cemetery in Marikina City to visit the graves of my late grandmother and my mama. We visited them a week after the observance of All Saints' Day. A practice we have observed as a family to avoid the traffic and crowd during November 1.

My dad, my brother, grandfather and I were at the cemetery at 4:30 pm, my cousins (children of my aunt who are living in Manila) arrived at around 6:00 in the evening. My aunt and her husband and my other uncle were caught in the traffic on their way to Quezon City, all of them were coming from Bataan were they are now based.

Our loved ones' graves were at the farthest side of the cemetery so by 6:00 in the evening we were engulfed by the pitch black darkness of the night. We did not bring any candles with us because my aunt was the one who prepared the flowers and candles.

We passed off the time while waiting for my aunt to arrive, chatting and taking pictures.

(i'm the one in stripes with the brown bag)

My aunt were able to reach Loyola at 7:30 pm. We stayed there until 8:00 in the evening. We were the only ones left at that side of the cemetery.

After visiting our dear departed loved ones, we were off to celebrate my granfather's birthday. It was a late celebration because his special day was last November 2.

We all proceeded to Lamesa Grill in Trinoma. We had dinner at 9:00 pm because of the heavy traffic on our way to Trinoma. Everyone was already hungry so we only took pictures after our dinner.

(my aunt,my uncle,my cousins)

( no more food on the table)

(my cousins, the one in red is my brother and me in stripes)

(my cousin and her husband, the one in blue with black stripes is my dad)

That's how are family observed All Saints' Day 2009

Decisions, Decisions

I will be one of the bridesmaids in my cousin's wedding. I'm excited about the wedding which will be held a day after Christmas.

I can't think of any decent post because my mind is preoccupied with what design I'm going to choose for my gown.

The bride has sent me the designs of the gown but I still can't choose which is the one for me.

I wish I can post the pictures here so you can help decide but when I tried putting it here in my blog the pictures are small, the details of the gown can't be viewed.

I have until Sunday to choose. And I'm already anxious just thinking which of the gowns will look good on me.

Maristela Torres Bags Gold In Asian Track And Field Championships

Today was such a busy day at work.

While commuting on my way home, I was thinking of what to blog about today. I was too tired to think of anything and I just decided not to post anything for today. The first time I would have to do so in two months.

But when I read in the paper that Maristela Torres won a gold medal for the long jump event at the Asian Track and Field Championships being held in Guangzhou,China. I just felt I have to share this story.

The gold medal won by Torres is the first for the Philippines after twenty two years. The last gold medal for the country was won by Lydia De Vega in 1987 for the sprint double in Singapore.

Maristela Torres was considered to be a dark horse in the competition since everyone was expecting Chinese Chen Yaling to win before the home crowd.

When Miss Torres made her third jump and leaped 6.51 meters the Chinese coach approached Torres' coach Joseph Sy and congratulated him already because Chen only manage to reach 6.28 meters.

She makes us Filipino proud because of this feat.

Congratulations to Maristela Torres

Earning Opportunities

It has been almost two weeks that I don't qualify for any writing opportunities at Payperpost. Unlike last month, I get to write many articles from them.

But it is a good thing that I discovered other sites where I can earn extra cash. And I know that these sites are not scam because I or my online friends have already received payments from them.

Some of the sites I regularly visit and earn from are: MyLot, Netverdix and Microworker.

Visit these sites and earn extra cash as well.

Superbook

Yesterday I heard mass at St. Joseph's Shrine, while listening to the first reading about the story of Prophet Elijah and the widow with a son during the famine in Israel, I remembered that this bible account was one of the episodes shown in the animated series "Superbook." I can still vividly recall how that episode went.

Adults in their late twenties are familiar with this cartoon shown in the 80's and the early 90's over at GMA 7. This was one of my favorite animated series along with "Flying House." I love it so much I even became a member of its SuperKids Club.

Superbook followed the adventures of Christopher Peepers, his friend Joy and their toy robot Gizmo. It started when Christopher/Chris discovered the magical bible, the Superbook , that speaks and sends then through time to witness the bible story and interact with the different bible characters.

This animation was produced by the Tatsunoko Productions of Japan in cooperation with the Christian Broadcasting Network of the United States of America. The first episode was aired in Japan on October 1, 1981.

The cartoon was intended to reach out to the Christian minority in Japan. But when the anime was shown in a convention in France and received positive feedback, it was shown in other countries as well.

In the second series other characters like Chris' dog Ruffles and his cousin Uri were introduced. According to Wikipedia, a new series was developed in 2008.

I hope that I get to watch the new series because this cartoon brought back a lot of happy childhood memories.

I wish kids now can get to watch the new series as well or even the re-run so that they can get to enjoy it as much as I did at their age and learn wonderful lessons as well.

Comment Moderation

Everyone can leave a comment on any post I made without moderation. I welcome even negative comments because not everyone shares the same view or opinion with that of mine.

But starting yesterday, I changed the setting on my blog and I now approve or reject comments made on my blog. I did that because I was disappointed when someone left a comment with very offensive sexual content. That was inappropriate, I did not write anything that is sexual or sensual in nature.

That person who left that comment had the guts to write something that is offensive but is coward because he/she did not dare reveal who he/she is because he/she signed the comment as anonymous.

I'm super upset with what happened, so from now on I will have all comments approved by me before it gets to be published in this blog.

Tired Hands

My hands are super tired from all the encoding I did today. I'm just grateful that I finished typing all the results and are now delivered to our client.
And because my hands are aching from all the work I was able to accomplish today, non-stop typing on the keyboard from 7:00 am with only twenty minutes for lunch break, I will not post a long entry today.
See you all tomorrow, I'm exhausted physically and mentally.

November 27 and 28, Holidays No More

In my post last month entitled “Declared Holidays for November,”President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Proclamation 1808 stating that Eid’l Adha or the Feast of the Sacrifice is a holiday to be observed all throughout the country.

But sadly on October 26, 2009, the President ordered through Proclamation No 1808-A that the said dates will be observed as special holidays only in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao or ARMM.

November 27 and 28 are no longer holidays. November 30, is still a holiday because it is in observance of Bonifacio Day.

So instead of having a four days off for the last week of November, all the regions except for ARMM will only have three days weekend off.

Vacation Is Over

Vacation is over and it’s the start of another work week. Well at least, we only have to work for four days this week except for those with work on Saturdays. But I intend to file for an overtime work this coming Saturday because I have a lot of pending work at the office.

The three day weekend is enough to recharge me.

Last Saturday, I was awakened by the loud noise made by the wind. Signal number three was hoisted over the National Capital Region. Typhoon Santi made his presence felt with its strong wind and heavy rain. It was a good thing though that the typhoon only passed by the region for a few hours. But the typhoon’s brief stay is enough to cut off power lines in some parts of the country, including our area which has no electricity from 6:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon.

Saturday is all about being with the family. I helped my Dad prepare lunch. And since my youngest brother filed for an office leave because he has work on Saturdays, we ate lunch as a family. Having no electricity, we passed off the time chatting, listening to my brother’s mp3 and dancing. We attended the anticipated mass at six in the evening.

Last November 1, Sunday, All Saints’ Day we did not go to the cemetery to visit the graves of our dear dead loved ones to avoid the crowd and traffic. We’ll just visit my mama and lolo on November 8.

Sunday is all about spending time with the boyfriend. He has been sick for almost two weeks and last Sunday was the only time he was able to visit me at home. We did grocery shopping, we had a food trip and we teased each other all throughout the afternoon. Simple things we missed doing together ever since he got sick. I’m just grateful that he is okay already.

Monday morning, I went to a dental clinic to have a dental propylaxis, unfortunately the dentist was still out so I went to the optical clinic instead. I had an eye examination and got myself a new set of contact lens and a new pair of prescription glasses. I am nearsighted so the need for contact lens.

Later in the afternoon I met up with my friends at Chopstick’s in Gateway Mall. Ate Kat, my friend from the office is treating us for an early dinner birthday treat.

The three day weekend off is all about spending time with the family, boyfriend and friends, what a happy way to spend it.
