Sister's Tag

Be the kind of women that when your feet hit the floor each morning,
The devil says "Oh Crap, She's Up."
Sister, life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don't just because you can.
Believe in everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Kiss slowly. Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promise it would be worth it.
Today is sister's day.

To the cool women that have touched my life.
this is for you.....LOVE U!!!

Rules:

Tag all your sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts, girlfriends.
If you get tag back seven times, you are loved.
Happy sister's day! LOVE YA SISTA!!!
Girlfriend and sisters WEEK.

This lovely tag was given to me by Bambie, one of the sweetest blogger friends I have. And I wish to pass this to the nicest bloggers and online friends I have: Grace, Meryl, Joy, Sheng, Enchie and to Bambie too.

On Vacation Mode

I’m going to rest for the next three days. I’m not going to worry about work! The last two weeks has been very stressful for me. My mind and body is pleading for some relaxation.

I’m going to blog, read a good book, take long sleep over the weekend.

My family won’t go to the cemetery to visit our departed loved ones on November 1, All Saint’s Day; it’s usually a week after to avoid the traffic and crowd.

Traffic is horrible at Loyola Cemetery in Marikina City, where my mother and grandmother are laid to rest. We are scheduled to visit their graves on November 8.

I’m looking forward to just bum around the house.

Car Parts and Auto Parts

A lot of vehicles were destroyed when Typhoon Ondoy wreck havoc in the country last month. Many cars are still not in used because many car parts have been destroyed when these vehicles got submerged in the flood waters.

Car owners need to spend huge amounts of money to restore their cars.

It would be of great help to many Filipinos if Carpartswarehouse is also available in the country.

Carpartswarehouse.com sells quality car parts and auto parts at reasonable prices across the United States of America. Their site offers the lowest prices online and they deliver car parts and auto parts for free for a minimum purchase of $50.00 only. They offer a wide selection of car parts for all car makes and model; and if the auto parts you are looking for is not available at their store, they will go out of their way just to find the car parts for you.

So if you are living in the United States of America and are in need of car parts and auto parts, check carpartswarehouse.com first before making any purchases.

On The Road To Full Recovery

Last week has been a stressful one for me because my boyfriend has been in and out of the hospital.

First, we suspected that he had Leptospirosis but the doctors confirmed later on that it was due to a viral infection.

I was not able to talk to the physician because if I had I would like to ask what virus it was and what is the name of the disease?

Putting a sickness as plain viral infection is very broad. Is it an Epstein Barr or a Cytomegalovirus? I’m not a doctor but I want to know further what the illness is, so I and my loved ones can better protect ourselves from such illness.

All I know right now is that bf’s monocyte count in his blood got elevated and his platelets dropped from normal as well as his potassium. He had fever, malaise, severe headache and he lost his appetite for days.

Both his arms got bruised when each of his arms got injected with paracetamol and tramadol for his fever to get down and for his headache. His arms from the shoulder to the elbow were purplish in color and were swollen due to the injections. It was a huge hematoma. The doctor prescribed multivitamins as treatment for his disease.

The doctor we consulted for his check-up gave an appetite stimulant for bf because he could only manage to eat two to three spoonful of food and nothing more. He even said that as soon as bf’s appetite get back to normal, we should visit him back to have a work up to know why his arms got bruised by the injections. He may have underlying blood disease that was not yet discovered.

I am grateful that bf has been eating well, his arms are still bruised but are no longer swollen. I know that he will be fully recovered from his sickness soon.

Last Tuesday

It was a tiring Tuesday for me yesterday. As soon as I open my office computer to login on a program run by the Department of Health, the program won’t accept my username and password. There was a problem with the accreditation number of our health facility.

The Management Information System of the Department of Health informed me to bring the central processing unit of the computer to their office in Tayuman.

It was a long commute from Cubao, Quezon City to Tayuman, Manila. And it was another long wait for the computer to get fix. I was at DOH office from ten in the morning up to two in the afternoon.

If I knew all along that it will take that long to be repaired I should have brought with me a good book to entertain me. It was a good thing I have a notebook and a pen with me. I jot down ideas I can blog about and write down few articles I can post already.

I have so many pending work at the office and I just wasted another day doing nothing but what can I do, my work is tied up to that DOH program.

Miscommunication

Last Friday, Boyet went back to the hospital for his follow up check-up. He has been sick the week before and was rushed to the hospital the previous Saturday, was released on a Sunday and was brought back to the emergency room on a Monday night due to a viral infection.

He left a message on my mobile phone informing me that he was not able to make it for the morning out patient department schedule and will just wait for the afternoon session.

Since the hospital was just a jeepney ride from where I was working and it was ten minutes before my lunch break, I texted him back telling him to meet me up at the hospital’s emergency ward so we can eat lunch together.

His reply to my message was not to continue my plan of going to the hospital because I might not be able to eat my lunch because my one hour break will be consumed by my travel to the hospital and my commute back to the office.

But despite his objection I still went to the hospital.

After twenty minutes I was at the hospital’s emergency ward and he was not there. I called up his mobile phone but the other line said that the subscriber cannot be reached. I then remembered that his phone was running on low battery. I looked for him at the out patient department and at the nearby canteen and there was no trace of him.

A friend from work texted me that Boyet was at the office waiting for me.

I was at the hospital while he was at my office. I called up Boyet in the office to inform him that I was on my way back to the office.

I hurriedly went back to the office but was caught in the traffic. It was ten minutes to one in the afternoon when I reached the office.

Boyet told me that the last message I received was his last text message before his mobile phone loss its power. And he thought all along that I got and obeyed his message.

I felt bad because he has not been feeling well and yet here he was in the office visiting me. And at the same time it was one in the afternoon and he has still not eaten his lunch yet. His commute back to the hospital will eat up most of his time; he wouldn’t be able to finish his check-up much earlier.

I asked permission from my supervisor to take the rest of the afternoon off so I could accompany him to his check-up.

We did not go back to the hospital but instead went to another clinic.

Someone Is Pretending To Be Him

Last night while checking my email, I received a notice from friendster informing me that my boyfriend is inviting me to join him as one of his friends in his account.

I was confused for a while because he had a previous account before which he has not touch for ages.

My boyfriend’s name is Boyet. In his first account with friendster he made used of the name Yet and in this new one it’s Boyet already.

Boyet is not really fond of social networking site, he only signed up with friendster because I asked him before. And now that most people have switched to facebook, he had not made an attempt to have an account there.

When I check the profile of the person trying to be Boyet, it does not have any picture and the only information there was the age which is the same as that of my boyfriend. Three people have signed up to be his friend including one who happens to be his coworker before.

The last update on that account was a new friend added nine hours ago which confirms my suspicion that it was not my boyfriend after all because I was with Boyet the whole Sunday and we are not in any way near a computer during that time.

I texted my boyfriend informing him that someone is making a friendster account using his name. He just told me not to accept the invite.

What could be the motive of this person for making an account in my boyfriend’s name?

Declared Holidays for November in the Philippines

Here’s the list of the official holidays for November. I know a lot of us in the work force are looking forward to these dates, for our long weekend rest.

November 1 and November 2 ( Monday) – are special non working holidays in observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’Day, to give more time for Filipinos to visit and pay respect at the graves of their dead loved ones specially for those who will go to the provinces.

November 27 (Friday) and November 28 ( for those who have work on Saturday), in celebration of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of the Sacrifice, which signifies the end of the Islamic world’s Hariraya Hajj or the pilgrimage to Mecca (the holiest place for the Muslims).

These celebrations were used to be regional holidays in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) but this year, the President has declared this holiday to be observed all throughout the country.

November 30 (Monday) –a regular holiday, in observance of Andres Bonifacio Day.

I’m looking forward to these dates.

KFC's Twister

My brother and I were able to sample KFC’s latest addition to their menu the “twister wrap.”

Just like what’s mention by the girl in the advertisement, my one word for it is “sarap,”(delicious).

The twister is a grilled tortilla with pepperoni, fried chicken breast strips, mozzarella cheese, with a special pizza sauce.

I enjoy every bite of my twister. The tortilla was grilled right, the chicken breast strips give the right crunch and the pizza sauce is perfect to blend all the ingredients.

Describing the twister wrap here in this post makes me crave for it already.

Try the twister wrap.

A New Toaster Oven

We don't have a microwave oven at home, so when we want to quickly heat food we make use of our toaster oven. Aside from heating our food, we also used it in making our home made french toast and pandesal pizza.

But when I tried using it last Sunday, our toaster oven was not working already.

Knowing how useful this piece of kitchen appliance is, I'm now in the lookout for a new toaster oven to replace it.

There are a lot of toaster oven in the market, I want to be sure that my next purchase will be of good quality and will last long. To help me search for the commercial toaster oven I visit an online site called toasterovensguide. Toasterovensguide provides comprehensive reviews on the different models of toaster or toaster oven. Their site lists down the advantages and disadvantages of the different toasters and toaster ovens available in the market today.

I'm checking the different models of toaster oven while typing this, and hopefully I will be able to choose which is the best for our kitchen

Viral Infection ?

I was awakened by the ringing of our phone. It was Boyet’s brother informing that Boyet was back at the hospital emergency room. His brother told me that if I have the time if I could drop by at the hospital because Boyet wanted to see me.

He said that they had to rush Boyet back at the hospital because Boyet was complaining of severe headache and that his fever is still high. Boyet’s condition was still the same despite the medications given to him last Saturday when he was first brought to the hospital.

This time, the doctors placed him in the Leptospirosis ward of the hospital, under observation if he had contacted that disease.

I went to the hospital before going to work this morning to check on him. Boyet’s laboratory result was already out and that there was no indication of Leptospirosis and that what he had is a viral infection.

When I was about to leave for work, his doctor examined him and was ready to discharge him from the hospital. But the doctor couldn’t explain why he still had that terrible headache after being injected with a pain killer.. The headache is really painful because Boyet was really complaining about it. Boyet was never the type who would complain when he feels pain or when he was sick.

The doctor then ordered a Brain CT Scan for Boyet. I will accompany him to the hospital in the coming days for his CT Scan.

I’m just worried because it was not clear what his sickness is.

He's Sick

I was able to talk to Boyet’s dad late in the afternoon yesterday. He said that Boyet was not confined in the hospital but was just given some medicines for his flu. Boyet became dehydrated because of his flu and that was the reason he became extremely weak.

I feel relieved that he was not admitted at the hospital, I was thinking that he may had contacted Leptospirosis since he lives in Marikina which was according to the news had a Leptospirosis outbreak.

I was not able to talk personally to Boyet because he was sleeping when I called up their house yesterday. I know he needed a lot of rest. All I needed was just to know how his condition is.

I hope he gets well soon.

Worried

It was my brother's birthday yesterday. Boyet, my boyfriend was not able to attend the birthday celebration because he was not feeling well.

When I asked him what he was feeling. He told me that he has a fever, his whole body aches and that he has a terrible headache.

So even if I wanted him to party with us at home, I knew that he needs to rest at their house.

At 8:30 pm last night, I called up their house because I wanted to check how he was. It was his mom who answered the phone and told me that they are bringing Boyet to the hospital because he was extremely weak. I wanted to speak to Boyet but decided not to because his family will rush him to the hospital already.

When I called up their house to ask if he was admitted to the hospital, no one answered the phone at their house and when I tried calling my bf's mobile phone it was turn off.

Now, I'm worried because I don't know what happened to him.

I wish someone would pick up the phone in their house or I should have asked for his brother's cellphone number so I can have an update on his condition or I could visit him in the hospital.

Happy Birthday Pol !

No long post for me today. I'm busy cleaning the house today and preparing the food for my brother's birthday party tonight.

Pol is my younger brother. He is a very loving young man, he did not hesitate to be my father's kidney donor in order to save our father's life. That selfless act is something that I'm grateful for Pol for the rest of my life.

Pol, Happy Birthday! May your life continue to abound in blessings, love, happiness, success and good health. I love you!

Saving Our Environment

The country has definitely felt the effect of climate change; two typhoons came one after the other bringing relentless rain that cause massive flooding all over Luzon. We, Filipinos living in a tropical country are so used to typhoons but nothing has prepared us for the destruction Typhoon Pepeng and Typhoon Ondoy gave the country. Experts said that Typhoon Ondoy brought in a month’s rain over Metro Manila and nearby provinces in just a matter of six hours.

It is now the time to unite and take action to protect our environment.

Here are some simple ways to take care of our environment:

1. Remember to recycle.
2. Do not use products that contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment.
3. Try alternative form of transportation like walking, biking or car pool with co-workers.
4. Practice waste segregation.
5. Choose energy efficient appliances.
6. Turn off appliances not in use.
7. Use fuel efficient vehicles.
8. Buy locally grown food.
9. Have a once a week meatless day.
10. Bring your own shopping bag when grocery shopping.

Today, October 15, 2009 is Blog Action Day for climate change. All bloggers are encouraged to write a post about climate change to bring about awareness on climate change.

Let us all do the necessary actions while there is still time to save our environment.

Efren Penaflorida - CNN Hero

Efren Penaflorida is one of CNN Heroes, Ordinary People Extraordinary Impact.

He is from Cavite, Philippines and he founded the Dynamic Teen Company in 1997 with twenty volunteers. He started this group to dissuade youngsters from joining gangs and instead encourages young people to study to improve their lives. His group teaches young people in the streets not only functional literacy but also good values.

Efren Penaflorida and his volunteers use pushcarts they refer to as “Kariton Klasrum.” These pushcarts hold their mini library, teaching aids, a black board and detachable tables and chairs. These mobile classrooms help them conduct their lessons in the streets for the underprivileged children

Dynamic Teen Company has 2000 volunteers to date and aside from bringing education in the street, they also have a feeding program for abandoned children.

After Typhoon Ondoy, their “Kariton Klasrum,” where converted to relief carts that brought food, clothes and other goods to the typhoon victims.

Efren Penaflorida dreams to have a permanent place for these street children

Check the other inspiring people at CNN Heroes and don’t forget to vote for Efren Penaflorida.

Red Ribbon's White Forrest

Have you tried the White Forrest, the latest cake creation by Red Ribbon?

I had the chance to taste it during Kamille’s party and it took only one bite and I love it already. This cake is made up of white chiffon cake layered with cherry filling and thin white chocolate flakes and topped with white chocolate shavings and long stemmed maraschino cherries. I love white chocolates and that’s probably the main reason I liked this cake.

Just looking at its picture now makes me crave for it. It’s really as delectable, sweet and creamy as it looks in the picture.

Have a slice of White Forrest and enjoy!

Angel Locsin's Nomination at the International Emmy Awards

Angel Locsin Nominated at the International Emmy Awards

I am taking a rest from the unpleasant entries I’ve posted these past few days into something light for a change.

Angel Locsin is nominated at the International Emmy Awards for outstanding performance of an actress for her role as Lyka Raymundo in ABS-CBN’s “Lobo.”

“Lobo,” which was shown early last year is the first project of Ms. Locsin with ABS-CBN. She leads this top rating teleserye along with the country’s finest actor Mr. Piolo Pascual.

Aside from Angel Locsin’s nomination, two of the country’s telenovela also earned a nod from the award giving body; and these are: ABS-CBN’s “Kahit Isang Saglit,” which starred Jericho Rosales and Malaysian Actress Carmen Soo and GMA’s “Magdusa Ka,” which starred Dennis Trillo and Katrina Halili.

Angel Locsin will be up against actresses from France, Mexico and the United Kingdom while our local teleserye will be competing against those from India and France.

The awarding ceremony will be on November 23, 2009 at the Hilton Hotel, New York.

I hope Angel Locsin and either one of the drama series bag the award.

Typhoon Pepeng Aftermath

After" Typhoon Ondoy" ravages Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Rizal and Bulacan, we had "Typhoon Pepeng" wrecking havoc in Northern Luzon.

I'm extremely saddened about what happened in Baguio City and other towns of Benguet, La Union, Tarlac, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Nueva Ecija. The relentless rain brought by "Typhoon Pepeng" has cause massive flooding in the said areas.

Reports said that at least 269 people had died, several individuals are still missing, many major infrastructure were destroyed, and we're looking at millions of worth agricultural products that were damaged.

I know that the country has not yet recovered from the fury of "Typhoon Ondoy," and now we are faced with the tragedy brought by "Typhoon Pepeng,"let us continue praying for the victims of the two typhoon and let us not be weary in donating goods and other services for our "kababayan."

Rising Prices

I know that in my last post I'm ranting about my lack of sleep due to the blackouts. Now, I'm complaining about the price and the lack of supplies of commodities in the market today.

I went to Mega Q-Mart this morning to do my weekly food shopping. When I went there, I was greeted by the price hike in meat and vegetables. The meat stall where I regularly get my supply of meat now sells their pork kasim at P170 when a week ago it was just at P160. The pork liempo is now at P180, when a week earlier its just at P170. Beef is now at 185 per 3/4 kilo and a kilo of chicken wings is at P140. I have to buy the chicken wings at a different stall because my "suki" run out of supply of chicken wings.

I was not able to check the prices of other fish and seafood because I only bought a kilo of tilapia which is just P70 and a kilo of big squid for calamari at P75, the small squid for adobo is price higher at P200 when the regular market price is at P170 to P180.

Moving to the vegetable section of the market, I only spend around P300 per week, now I have to shell out P430. I bought two pieces of ampalaya and it cost me P50 already while 1/4 kilo of baguio beans is at P60.

Not only where the prices higher for most food products but their is an obvious lack of supply. The stock of vegetables are withered because most of the suppliers were not able to deliver fresh vegetables.

Typhoon Pepeng flooded several provinces in the north causing farm products to be destroyed and roads are not passable for trucks to deliver supplies that were harvested already.

The price freeze has been ordered by the government but obviously it was not implemented.

This price hike is causing a mess in my weekly budget. I have to cut down on certain expenses to compensate for the extra money I have to shell out for food.

Managing the budget at home can be stressful. I need to find ways on how to save up on things. I guess I need to surf up the internet and look for ideas that will help me in my budget. Where do I begin my search? I need a Rapidshare Search Engine that will help me look for contents with regards to budget stretching and download this files immedietely. Rapid4me is the place I should look for. It is one of the best resources in that area. I can download files, movies, music, and other things I need fast at rapid4me. When I type in budget saving tips at the search area, in just a few seconds I'm directed to twenty files that answered my query. So whenever you need to download music, movies or just about anything, try rapid4me.com.

Blackouts in Metro Manila and Rizal

I feel really tired today. I only had three hours of sleep due to the power interruption in our area which lasted for six hours yesterday.

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) had to shut down the transformer at the Taytay, Rizal substation due to the fire. According to the statement of Meralco the rotating blackouts which lasted for three to four hours happened “ due to critical loading and its attempt to shift load,” brought about by the closing of the substation of the National Grid. Corporation of the Philippines.

The power failure also affected the normal operation of the EDSA bound Metro Rail Transit for an hour.

I wanted to whine about my lack of sleep but reading the news this morning made me realize that several towns in Marikina specifically Nangka, Sto. Nino, Malanday and Industrial Valley as well as Cainta do not have electricity since Typhoon Ondoy. I only had to suffer the discomfort of no electric power for few hours compared to those who have been living in Marikina and Cainta.

The blackouts halted the relief and rehabilitation efforts in Marikina, Pasig and Cainta.

I hope the transformers as well as the cables will be fix soon so that I can have a good night sleep tonight and those without electricity for several days will be serviced by Meralco already.

Pink Ribbon and Breast Cancer Awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month and the pink ribbon is the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

Every woman should know what breast cancer is and how to detect it. Since early detection improves the chances of a patient beating cancer.

It is so alarming to learn that the Philippines ranks number one in Asia with the most number of breast cancer cases each year. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women. It is the leading cause of death among the types of cancer in Hispanics and the second cause of death among Asians.

Sadly, my mom was part of the above mentioned statistics. She died of breast cancer thirteen years ago.

Here’s the link to my post about breast cancer awareness I’ve written a year ago

Tough Times

It has been a very trying time for a lot of people. Typhoon Ondoy wrecked havoc in Metro Manila and in the nearby provinces, Typhoon Pepeng unleashed its fury in Northern Luzon, the people in Indonesia faced a deadly quake and the inhabitants of the islands of Samoa and Tonga suffered from the devastating tsunami.

But despite all the difficulty we are experiencing let us remember that:

"Tought times don't last, tough people do."

Typhoon Pepeng

Finally, I can breath a sigh of relief. Typhoon Pepeng (International Codename - Padma) weakens according to the latest weather bulletin from PAGASA. As of 1:30 pm, it has accelerated west northwest and is now off to the coast of Cagayan. According to Nilo Frisco, chief weather forecaster, Manila is not directly hit by the typhoon and that its sustained winds has weakened from 121 mph to 108 mph.

What we are experiencing right now in Quezon City is strong to moderate wind, on and off rain but the rainfall is not as heavy as what we had last Saturday with Typhoon Ondoy.

But what worries me right now is the news that the Marikina River is swelling up again. I hope that it will not overflow to the areas surrounding it because the city hasn't recovered yet from the flood last weekend. And I pray that the typhoon will not cause a lot of damage to the province of Cagayan, which will be hit by the storm.

Yesterday, when I passed by SM Savemore in Cubao, I saw a lot of people doing grocery shopping. People are stacking up on water, canned goods, bread, biscuits and easy to cook food as well as on candles and matchboxes; all in anticipation for the coming of the typhoon.

I hope that they don't forget to add flashlights in their grocery items. Electricity may be cut due to the strong winds so flashlight are really handy during typhoons.

We misplaced our flashlight at home, so I'm scouting for a new one. I am eyeing the AE Light Powerlight Rechargeable HID Flashlight by Magnalight. This flashlight is light so its easy to carry and it's a HID flashlight. HID or High Intensity Discharge flashlight is much better than the regular ones because they produce brighter light, the lamp last longer and its shock resistant.

AE Light Powerlight Flashlight is produced by Magnalight. Magnalight is a company that offers an array of light products for the cable, telephone and electric utility industry. Feast Of The Guardian Angels

"God will put his angels in charge of you to protect you in all your ways." -Psalm 91:11

Today, October 2, 2009, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Guardian Angels.

Parents take comfort in the thought that their little ones are protected by their guardian angels but guardian angels are not only for children but each and every individual has his/her own guardian angel.

According to the Catholic doctrines, “Angels are pure spirits created by God…..
The role of the guardian angel is both to guide to good thoughts, works and words, and to preserve as from evil.” *

Let us honor our guardian angels today and thank them for their guidance and protection.

I remember this short prayer I’ve learned when I was in pre-school :

Angel of God, my guardian dear to whom God’s love commits me here
Ever this day be at my side, to light and guide, to rule and guard. Amen.
