Transformers Mania

Whenever Boyet and I would watch a movie, we usually go to a small mall in Marikina. We prefer seeing flicks there because there were only a handful of people who watch movies there. The last movie we watched “Nights at the Museum 2,” around thirty people, including us were the only ones inside the movie house. The cinema is so cold; we could switch our seats as often as we like and re-watch the film a second or a third time.

But last Saturday was a different story for “Transformers”. Two cinemas were already assigned for “Transformer,” and it was for single screening only. We went there at 2:30 with our snacks from KFC on hand, and the next show will be screened at 3:30 so we were not allowed entry to the theater. We had no choice but to eat our snacks already because the drinks wouldn’t be cold anymore and the food will turn cold already.

While waiting for the movie to be shown, we looked around the different shops inside the mall and only went back to the cinema twenty minutes before showing. There were a lot of people inside the movie house already, packed with people excitedly waiting for “Transformers,” complete with their snacks to munch on while watching. We have no choice but to seat at an area not our preferred choice. We did not expect that this small mall will be caught up by the Transformers mania.

The movie is funny, entertaining and there’s a lot of amazing fight scenes. A lot of things were blown up as well in the movie. But I just hope that they get to introduce more each of the robots shown in the movie and not just centered on Optimus Prime and Megatron, I find the part where Sam was talking with the seven primes, corny. I can’t tell the reason because some of you who are reading this may not have watch the movie and saying it now will ruin your excitement for the movie. I prefer the first movie than this second installment but that does not mean I don’t enjoy this one. So if you haven’t seen it yet, grab popcorn and watch the flick.

On a Rainy Day

The rain was only drizzling when I went out of the house for work this morning; but halfway to my journey to my work, the rain started pouring heavily. As I alighted from the lrt train, I had no choice but to walk through the rain. I report to work with a wet pants, socks and rubber shoes. I should have brought with me an extra socks and pants knowing that there’s a possibility that this would happen considering that storm signal number one is hoisted all over Manila.

Anyway, I can’t do anything about it now. When the weather is like this it would be just lovely to be in bed, reading a nice book and sipping a cup of hot chocolate. When that becomes boring I can go online and invite friends for a game of billiards.

Movie Date : Nights at the Museum 2 and other movies

Boyet and I went to the mall to buy leather shoes for my dad, my gift for my dad this coming Father's Day. And since we were at the mall already, we checked the movies being shown at the theaters. We chose to watch Ben Stiler's "Night at the Museum 2, Battle of the Smithsonian."



This was the first movie we watched this year because Boyet had been very busy with his shop, we don't have the time to go out and see a movie.

But I'm glad we get to watch "Nights at the Museum 2," it's really funny and entertaining, we get to laugh at a lot of times while watching the movie. And it's interesting to learn even a little bit of information about the famous/infamous men and women of history.

While waiting for the movie to start, we have seen a lot of wonderful movies line up to be shown these coming months , and we're both excited to see all those movies.

Some Thoughts To Share

Last week, my father was asked to be one of the speakers at the kidney transplant forum held at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City. He narrated to the audience his experiences as a kidney transplant recipient and he answered questions from the people about their concerns once they or their loved ones have to undergo the same procedure.

In the same forum, the invited medical doctors address the fears of the patients, their donors and their loved ones and assured them of how safe and life saving kidney transplantation is.

One of the issues raised by the donors was if what they saw happened to Dave in the soap opera “ Tayong Dalawa,” was true? Like Dave having convulsions, having a hard time to breathe and feeling extremely weak after donating his kidney to his twin brother JR.

That same question was repeatedly asked to my brother by his officemates because they saw that episode on television too and knew that my brother donated one of his kidneys for my father.

I haven’t seen that episode on television and all those inquiries made me curious about it; I was actually browsing through youtube to watch it but I haven’t caught it just yet.

When Paul donated one of his kidneys to Papa, he had to be hospitalized for four days and he needed a two week rest before he went back to work. I remembered that he only complained about how painful the wound was during the first two days and after that he was perfectly fine. And one thing I notice was that he was limping while walking, leaning towards the right side; most probably because it was the left kidney that he donated, there was some sort of imbalance due to the removal of the other pair. The left kidney was donated because the right kidney is stronger between the two.

It has been more than two years since he made that sacrifice for my dad and everything is back to normal in reference to the activities he does before. He still plays basketball and is now into cycling.

But because he only had one kidney, performing the excretory function for his body, he is very conscious with his lifestyle. He watches what he eats, he refrains from taking alcoholic beverages, he visits his doctor twice a year for check ups and he doesn’t smoke. He is restricted also to carry very heavy objects and indulge in extremely tiring activities.

When a person suffers from an end stage renal disease like what my father had before, the only way to prolong his life is either to go on dialysis for as long as he lives or have kidney transplantation.


Hemodialysis as what I’ve seen from my dad is a very painful procedure, a person must undergo for four hours, twice or thrice a week. My dad told us before that if it wasn’t for my aunt who helped us with the expenses and my brother donating his kidney, he wanted to stop doing dialysis already and was prepared to wait for his final days and meet my mom on the other side.

I am really grateful to my brother because he really volunteered his kidney for my dad and because of that we still have our father with us.

I hope that this post will remove the fears of those who want to give one of their kidneys for their loved ones and offer the gift of life. That unlike what was portrayed in the soap opera; kidney transplant is a safe procedure both for the recipient and the donor.
