There was a man who was given a brand new car by his elder brother.
On his way to test drive the car parked by the curbside of the street he noticed a young boy admiring his car. The boy is one of those kids who live in the slum area near his place.
The boy told the man, “ Is this your car?”
The man replied, “ Yes, it is. This car is given to me by my elder brother.”
The boy said, “ Wow! I wish…. I wish….”
The man thought that the boy would say, “ I wish I have a brother who will also give me a car. “
But instead the boy uttered, “ I wish I can be like your brother so that I can give my younger brother a new car as well. “
The man allowed the boy to see the inside of the car.
The boy requested the man if he can get his younger brother, in order for the younger brother to see the car also. The man gave in to the boy’s plea.
The boy hurriedly runs towards his house to get his brother.
It took a while before the boy returned, that the man thought he would no longer come back.
It turns out that the younger brother is crippled and that the boy needs to carry his brother.
When the boy and the brother arrived to where the car was, he said to his brother, “ This is the car I’m telling you about. One day, I’m going to give you your own car. “
The man got misty-eyed witnessing the scene.
In life, we received a lot of blessings from God, we are then called to share these graces with others and not to hoard them all to ourselves.
Be blessings to others today!

Extreme Makeover ( Part I )
Last Sunday’s episode over at Velvet Channel features a truly deserving family. Jaime, the husband and the father of three young children, recently lost his eyesight due to a shooting incident. A deranged man on a shooting spree targeted Jaime on his way to work. The bullet aimed at him, pierced through his right eye, causing the lost of vision of both his eyes.
It has only been four months since the unfortunate event happened and Jaime finds it difficult to adjust to the changes in his life. Their house is not suited anymore to meet the needs of a visually impaired man.
But despite the nightmare, the family remains to be intact, loving and positive about life. When Jaime was asked if he has forgiven his shooter, he said that he already has, only he feels frustrated sometimes because he lost some sense of independence and has to rely on others even on the simplest task. The wife on the other hand said that she only wants to make things easier and comfortable for her wonderful husband. They don’t see their situation as a tragedy but a miracle because Jaime is still with them. He may have lost his eyesight but he still remains to be the affectionate, happy father and husband that he was before the shooting took place.
I haven’t seen yet the outcome of the makeover because the second part of the show will be aired next Sunday. I am looking forward for the part II of this makeover.

Neurobics: For Your Mental Fitness
These mental exercises are important in order to keep my memory sharp and to improve my mental alertness.
But are you aware that aside from doing puzzles, playing complex games and being involve in memory building activities, there is another kind of mental exercise, which we can practice and that is neurobic exercises.
I have read about neurobic exercises in an article written by Ronaldo A. Montilla, PhD in the Philippine Star.
Neurobic exercises according to Dr. Lawrence Katz, a Neurobiology Professor at Duke University Medical Center “ are exercises that chiefly present the brain with non routine or unexpected experiences using various combinations of your physical senses – vision, smell, touch, taste and hearing as well as your emotional senses. The combination or association of the senses including its emotional context is considered the building block of memory and the basis of how we learn. Creating new association pattern using the senses is, therefore the core of neurobics.”
Our brain craves for novel ways of doing things. It thrives on challenges and changes. When our activities become a routine, it presents little opportunity for brain exercise. Through neurobics, our brains are stimulated not only by our vision but also by our other senses such as hearing, smell, taste and touch. The presentation of two or more senses in different ways challenges and engages the brain, thus increasing our mental fitness.
Dr. Lawrence Katz, in his book “Keeping the Brain Alive,” which he co-authored with Manning Rubin, suggested 83 Neurobic Exercise to enhance our cognitive processes.
Here are some of the exercises posted in the article of Mr. Ronaldo A. Montilla.
1.Use your non-dominant hand in daily activities such as brushing your teeth, opening the tube and applying toothpaste, styling your hair, shaving, buttoning clothes, eating.
2.Read aloud with your partner. Alternate the roles of reader and listener.
3.Take a different route to work.
4.Learn Braille and Sign Language
5.Consider swapping cars with a friend who has a very different kind of car.
6.Close your nose as you try different foods.
7.Identify food on your plate only by smell, taste and touch.
8.With your neighbors and friends, get involved in a community projects.
9.Try a new sport.
10.Grow a garden
11.Communicate a thought or idea to someone without using your voice.
12.Travel to new places and meet new faces.
13.Prepare a meal accompanied with ethnic music.
14.Take a creative workshop, e.g. photography, painting, music, acting or whatever you’ve always wanted to do.
I am now learning how to brush my teeth with my left hand and I’m looking forward to the new dish I’m experimenting on this coming Sunday. I am trying out these new things plus a couple of other activities in order to practice neurobics. I want to stay mentally healthy and sharp

Being Positive
I know a lot of people are worried that their take home pay from work wouldn’t be enough to support the needs of their families.
But I would like to see things through a positive perspective. Instead of being anxious about things I cannot control like the state of our economy; I will focus my energy on finding ways on how to:
a. Augment my income
b. Stretch my budget
c. Save
I will post here in my blog things I have learned, applied and have found to be effective in my pursuit to be more financially stable. Watch out for those entries.
Let us all stay positive and happy!

My Purpose In Life
When I was still young I was so idealistic – I dreamed of being a doctor and serving the sick at far-flung places all over the Philippines. I will be living in poor villages, treating the sick without expecting to be paid; this was the mission I thought I was called to do.
Fast track to the present time; I was not able to fulfill my childhood dream; I am not even a doctor right now. And I ‘m still wondering how can I be of service to others?
What then is my purpose in life?
And then it hit me…while listening to the preaching of Bo Sanchez; he said our primary purpose in life is to love.
Often time, I think that our purpose in life have to be in a grand scale. It involves tremendous hardships and sacrifices, magnificent dreams and extraordinary visions. But in reality my purpose in life can be simply stated as to love.
My purpose is to love: to love God, to love others, to love myself and to love life.
Love confirms my existence. God created us to love us. And since we received overflowing blessings because of His love we are called to love Him through others.
This is my purpose in life.
